The first two months of every year on the fashion calendar mirror the happy hour-centered Margaritaville adage about it always being 5 o’clock somewhere, but make it fashion. In a blur of runway show after runway show and as some brands throw the fashion calendar to the wind, it’s starting to feel as though it always Fashion Week somewhere.
Right now as Milan Fashion Week closes and everyone heads to Paris, we’re looking at a few stand out trends including deep purple on the runway according to Fashionista and Harper’s Bazaar and animal prints according. Street style trends seem to really be centered around “supercharged” colors (including but not limited to that neon green we’re seeing everywhere) as you’ll see in gallery after gallery of street style photo.
As for footwear, it’s been no secret that sneakers have reigned supreme since streetwear became so widely accepted even the luxury space is in on it. After weeks of watching the feet of those attending shows and sitting front rows, we’ve put together a list of sneakers to consider buying whether you’re in the industry or not and where you can get them.

Her second silhouette with Jordan brand as their first woman collaborator to have sneakers produced in both men’s and women’s sizes, stylist / model / designer, Aleali May’s “Court Lux” plays into a trend of going all in on bold, bright colors. The fur on the tongue is optional. It snaps on and can be removed, and they look just as good with the ice blue laces (included) as the standard black ones they come with. The “Court Lux” definitely are a cool girl type of shoe, think DJs in puffer coats rather than off-duty models, though.

The normcore shoes of 2015 evolved into the chunky sneakers of our youth but more extreme in 2018, just to have the Air Monarch, the quintessential dad sneaker, come back among the fashion crowd and even see an upgrade through designer, Martine Rose. If you can’t quite take the what’s old is new again stance seriously enough to wear the $47 Monarch or it’s $250 morphed and collaborated counterpart, the Air Max2 Light is a great option for cool dad sneaker, but for you first (and maybe your dad, too, but you’ll have to put him on to this one).

If you ever wondered what the fashion-invested athletes were wearing, it’s independent designer, John Geiger’s neoprene Volt 002s. Extremely lightweight, the slip on sneakers still have laces that wrap around the ankle and the Patron Of The New collaboration offers the shoe in a neon green colorway. You’re likely to see these in pre-game NBA photos as much as seated along the runway for shows like John Elliott and Kith.

A safe silhouette in a construction cone orange colorway is a good way to indicate you want your shoes to make a little noise, but you might not be stepping out in a runway look. Orange has been a cornerstone of the day-glow or “supercharged” bright color trend. These can even be considered your statement piece. We’ve seen them on editors in bright pant suits with long coats draped over their shoulders, but they also go well with cozier sets of sweats under the a more structured coat.

Released in the midst of all the fashion weeks, the Air Max 720 “Northern Lights (Night)” definitely will be more of a favorite of the streetwear sect of the fashion crowd. The purple shoe falls right in line with the colors we’ve been seeing on the runway, and with it being in the top two shoes with the most air in the sole, you can count on the 720s for comfort whether you’re flying around and in attendance to fashion week shows or just down to look like it.
