‘OlaBola The Musical’ announces its cast

OlaBola The Musical which is based on the 2016 hit movie OlaBola has found six of its cast members … two of whom were the stars of the film as well.

Actors Muhd Luqman Hafidz and Lim Jian Wen will reprise their roles as Ahmad Ali and Ong Tiam Cai in the musical set to open at Istana Budaya in February next year. Enfiniti, the production company behind OlaBola The Musical announced this in a press release in Oct 7.

Three others making up the Harimau Malaya team are Brian Chan (as Chow Kwok Keong aka Tauke), Abimanyu Masilamani (as Muthu Kumar) and Kai Chalmers (as Eric Yong).

Joining them is rapper Altimet, who is also the musical’s  lyricist. Altimet will play Drill Sergeant Ahmad.

Over 300 talents auditioned at the casting call held in late August, and 40 actors made the final cut.

Altimet is also the musical’s lyricist.

The six cast members will make their first public appearance performing a number from the musical titled Luarbiasa on Akademi Fantasia Megastar on Oct 8, at 10.00pm on Astro Ria (Astro Ch 104).

OlaBola tells the story of the country’s national football team, Harimau Malaya, and its journey to qualify for the 1980 Summer Olympics. The film was directed by Chiu Keng Guan and earned RM16.67mil at the box office last year.

OlaBola The Musical, which will have the same storyline as the film, is directed by Tiara Jacquelina, and is scheduled to be showcased at Istana Budaya from Feb 8 to March 11.
