Meet the new Game Of Thrones character you may just hate

In each season of Game Of Thrones, there has always been at least one character that we love to hate. Joffrey Baratheon, Ramsay Bolton, Alliser Thorne and Cersei Lannister are probably at the top of our list.

In the penultimate season of Game Of Thrones, which kicked off on June 17 in the United States and Malaysia, we have the little known Euron Greyjoy (Pilou Asbaek) joining that list. He’s actually King Euron Greyjoy, who we were introduced in S6.

Back then, we first see him in a scene where he tries, and succeeds, in killing his his older brother, the reigning king of the Iron Islands.

Then, just as Theon Greyjoy is about to convince everyone that his sister Yarra should sit on the Salt Throne, Euron shows up again and somehow manages to fool everyone into thinking that he’s a better candidate.

Now, as King Euron, he wants to kill his “traitor” niece and nephew, who have (obviously) escaped their kingdom. Euron is also said to be a little mad.

When Star2.com met Asbaek in London recently, we asked if he’s the character fans are going to love to hate this season.

“I think they are going to love him,” he deadpanned. “He is a funny guy. I love the work this year so much because he is so f***ing crazy. He’s nice,” continued Asbaek, 35, who was born in Denmark. “I like my costume for the next season,” he added, perhaps to throw us off from the subject.

In the books the series is based on, Euron wears a patch over his left eye. On the show, the character does not wear one. Asbaek explained the omission on Twitter (@PilouAsbaek): “I am sorry, but with all the killing Euron has to do, he needs both eyes.”

As a newcomer to the show, Asbaek confessed to having fun working with colleagues he had admired and followed on the small screen for six seasons now.

So no newcomer jitters, then? “If you become a king, the worst thing you can do is to act like a king. It’s all about your colleagues who act off you to being a king, you know. That’s one of the best of things about acting, you don’t have to do anything – the script is great, just avoid bumping into the ship and furniture and say the lines.”
