Malaysian and Japanese musicians to perform together

This year marks the 60th anniversary of business collaborations between Japan and Malaysia. To mark this special occasion, the very first Japan X Malaysia Friendship Concert 2017 will take place at Sunway Lagoon Surf Beach in Petaling Jaya, Selangor in September.

Malaysian and Japanese artistes will be performing together, boost business ties and encourage the exchange of music culture.

Four acts have already confirmed for the show. From Malaysia are rock band Bunkface and indie jazz-pop act Fazz; while from Japan are electro/rap duo Charisma.com (comprising MC Itsuka and DJ Gonchi) and dance rock band An Cafe.

Both Malaysian acts are no stranger to playing to Japanese crowds. Bunkface has represented Malaysia at Japan’s annual rock festival Summer Sonic Tokyo 2015 and shot its Darah Muda music video in the Ishikawa prefecture in Japan.

Fazz toured Tokyo last year and performed at the Haneda International Anime Music Festival 2015 in Tokyo.

Meanwhile, An Cafe will be playing in Malaysia for the first time, while Charisma.com has been featured in Malaysian TV programme Mad Markets Hokuriku Special, a collaborative travelogue by Japan and Malaysia.

The show is jointly organised by IME Malaysia, Toybox Projects and Ishida Taiseisha Inc.

The organisers are still in the process of confirming more acts for the concert, so watch this space for updates.
