Hollywood actor Ansel Elgort just can’t get enough of Malaysian food ever since he arrived here on July 15. So far, he has tried roti canai, fried rice (apparently, he ate two plates of it) and durian.

“I love durian. And jackfruit too,” the 23-year-old self-professed foodie said at a press conference held in Kuala Lumpur.

He is in town with co-star Lily James and director Edgar Wright to promote their film, Baby Driver, which opens in Malaysia on July 20.
On Monday night, the three of them walked the red carpet at Pavilion, meeting and greeting fans who had gathered to catch a glimpse of the stars.

Apart from trying out local delicacies, Elgort – who was last seen in the final Divergent film titled Allegiant – has also explored the city, visiting tourist sites such as Batu Caves, Chin Swee Caves Temple and Central Market.

James – who starred in Cinderella and TV’s Downton Abbey – and Wright said they looked forward to seeing what Malaysia has to offer.

“I want to see Malaysia, so suggestions welcome,” said Wright.

In Baby Driver, Elgort plays Baby, a getaway driver with mad skills at the wheel.

He works for a kingpin (Kevin Spacey) who masterminds one heist after another. But when Baby meets and falls in love with Debora (James), he is intent on leaving the world of crime and lead leading a clean life.

Besides mind-blowing car chase sequences, Baby Driver also features an amazing soundtrack that synchronises with every plot twist and turn in the movie.

Elgort shared that he learnt stunt driving to prepare for the role, although professionals did most of the driving for the films.

“I got to keep the Subaru from the movie so I drive that car and it’s a little difficult to drive because I feel like I want to turnspin it around all the time. I’m definitely a better driver now and I enjoy driving more than ever. I think I have (caught) the bug.”
