Malaysian actor Bront Palarae will be flying to Manila, the Philippines to star in Bradley Liew’s upcoming film Daddy’s Home. The psychological thriller will see Bront acting in his first ever Tagalog-language role.
“In Daddy’s Home, I play a father who returns home some time away at the sea. He somehow becomes a different man and his family doesn’t recognise him. Unexplained things start to happen,” he shared during an interview in Shah Alam, Selangor.
Bront said that he will start filming on June 15. He hopes to make it back home before the Hari Raya celebrations.
In 2016, Liew made his directorial debut with Singing In Graveyards and the film had its world premiere at the Venice International Film Critics Week. Liew, who is originally from Petaling Jaya, is currently based in Manila. Singing In Graveyards was well-received and it earned the award for Best Picture at the inaugural Malaysian Golden Global Awards in March.
Meanwhile, Bront, 38, first met Liew during the screening of his film Terbaik Dari Langit in Tokyo, Japan back in 2014.
“I met him and (Singing In Graveyards producer) Bianca Balbuena. We have always talked about doing something together. Three years later … here we are,” Bront said.
In other developments, Bront has just wrapped up filming for Joko Anwar’s remake of classic Indonesian horror film Pengabdi Setan.
“It’s about a family and everything takes place in a house. Something bad happens and my character, as the father, has to try and hold everybody together.”
Pengabdi Setan which is set for release later this year is Bront’s third Indonesian film after the comedy ensemble My Stupid Boss and action movie Headshot.
Locally, his latest work is Kau Takdirku, a long-awaited drama film starring Remy Ishak and Ezzaty Abdullah set nationwide release on Sept 7.
