Taiwanese rock duo Power Station’s concert tickets are selling out fast

Come September, Taiwanese indigenous rock duo Power Station will be celebrating its 20th anniversary.

As part of a concert tour to mark this milestone, the band – comprising Yu Chiu Hsin and Yen Chih Lin – will be rocking Genting’s Arena Of Stars with Malaysian fans on June 17.

In a recent phone interview, the duo revealed that its 20th anniversary tour will kick off with a show at the prestigious 15,000-capacity Taipei Arena.

How does the band plan to celebrate its 20th anniversary? Laughing, Yu replied: “We’ll hold on to each other’s hands, and see how many more years we can continue to sing together.”

When asked whether they would be exchanging gifts, the guys dismissed the idea, saying it would be too sappy. “While we’re at it, we might as well have a candlelit dinner,” Yu joked, adding that such anniversary celebrations are for couples.

Although Power Station plays in Malaysia quite often, the duo doesn’t have to worry about ticket sales.

“Every time we play in Malaysia, it feels just like home. And, fans keep getting more and more enthusiastic.

“For this concert, we will be performing new songs, as part of the highlight of our concert,” Yu said, referring to the band’s latest release, a compilation of 20 new duet songs, which was released in December last year.

Although the group last played here in January, tickets to its upcoming anniversary concert in June are being snapped up fast. According to concert organiser, Resorts World Genting, the PS4 (RM130) and PS2 (RM360) tickets are already sold out. The remaining tickets are priced at RM190, RM350 and RM450.

Since tickets are selling so well, would the group consider playing an extra show?

“Only one show. Power Station plays heavy rock. We cannot manage to do more than one show,” said Yu, who together with Yen hail from the Paiwan tribe of Taiwan’s mountainous Pingtung County.

Active since 1997, Yu and Yen have been performing together since they were 25. Known as Dong Li Huo Che in Mandarin, the duo is best-loved for its rock ballads like Zhong Xiao Dong Lu Zhou Jiu Bia (Walking Along Zhongxiao East Street Nine Times) and Na Jiu Zhe Yang Ba (Let It Be This Way).
