Teen drama Riverdale, which centres on a murder mystery featuring characters from the Archie comics, has become quite a sensation. Many of its main cast members are relatively new to showbiz but there are others you may recognise from past TV shows.
KJ Apa (Archie Andrews)
The 19-year-old New Zealand native made his acting debut on the soap opera Shortland Street in 2013. You may have seen him recently on his film debut, A Dog’s Purpose. The film chronicles Golden Retriever Bailey’s relationship with his owner Ethan, played by Apa.
Lili Reinhart (Betty Cooper)
Reinhart has starred in a number of TV shows and films but never got her big break until Riverdale. The 20-year-old actress has guest starred in Law And Order: Special Victims Unit and was a series regular acting opposite Christopher Meloni on the shortlived 2014 sitcom Surviving Jack. She also appeared in indie films The Kings Of Summer and Miss Stevens.
Camila Mendes (Veronica Lodge)
Can you believe that 22-year-old Mendes, who effectively brings to life Veronica Lodge, is making her acting debut on Riverdale? The actress, who is of Brazilian descent, just graduated from New York University’s Tisch School Of The Arts last year. What a great way to kickstart a career!
Cole Sprouse (Jughead)
This 24-year-old actor has been acting nearly his entire life. Cole and his twin brother Dylan were just babies when they took turns to play Patrick Kelly on the 1993 sitcom, Grace Under Fire. The Sprouse twins are best known on TV for portraying Zack and Cody Martin on Disney’s The Suite Life Of Zack And Cody, which aired from 2005 to 2008. They reprised their roles in the sequel series, The Suite Life On Deck, which ran from 2008 to 2011.
Madchen Amick (Alice Cooper)
Amick has enjoyed quite an illustrous acting career before her turn as Betty’s controlling mother on Riverdale. The 46-year-old actress played waitress Shelly Johnson on the groudbreaking 1990 series Twin Peaks and will be reprising the role when the show returns soon.
You may also remember her as one of the witches, Wendy Beauchamp, on Witches Of East End. Amick has also guest starred on a string of prominent TV shows such as ER, Gilmore Girls, Gossip Girl and American Horror Story: Hotel.
Luke Perry (Fred Andrews)
Did you know that when Perry first started out in showbiz, he auditioned for 215 acting roles before landing a TV commercial deal? It all paid off when he was later cast as bad boy Dylan McKay in Beverly Hills, 90210, and became a 1990s teen idol. He also had a recurring role on the critically-aclaimed HBO series, Oz, as Reverend Jeremiah Cloutier.
Marisol Nichols (Hermione Lodge)
Nichols is best known for her role as Special Agent Nadia Yassir on the sixth season of 24. The 43-year-old actress was also a series regular on the 2012 comedy drama, GCB, and had a recurring role on Teen Wolf as Malia Tate’s mother, the Desert Wolf.
