A potential Malaysian wrestler on WWE? Yes, please

Could we see a Malaysian wrestler on TV in the future?

In a recent interview on ESPN’s First Take show, World Wrestling Federation (WWE) executive vice president (talent, live events and creative) Paul Levesque, aka Triple H, said that WWE is always on the lookout for talent from all over the world, name-checking Malaysia in a list of countries that have the potential to go far.

In the interview to promote the upcoming Wrestlemania 33 event, Triple H said: “We recruit everywhere, whether it be China … I just signed 10 Chinese nationals off our trials there in China … whether it’s Phillipines, Malaysia, Singapore, we go all over the globe and we find talent.”

There is a strong following of WWE in Malaysia, with active fan clubs such as Peminat Gusti Malaysia and the Malaysian Wrestling Club, as well as its very own professional wrestling body, the Malaysian Pro Wrestling (MyPW).

The MyPW also holds regular local wrestling events including last year’s WrestleCon 2016, which saw local wrestlers going up against those from Singapore and Thailand.

Here’s hoping that in the future, we might see the local lads from WrestleCon like Shaukat, The D, The Kid, and Furious Faizal on Wrestlemania, going up against the likes of John Cena, Bray Wyatt, or even Triple H himself!
