Colin Hanks never felt pressured to follow in his famous father Tom Hanks’ footsteps. The 39-year-old actor, who has starred in TV shows Roswell, Mad Men, Dexter and Fargo, tells CBS This Morning that acting came naturally to him and it was something he always enjoyed.
Asked if his father ever steered him towards acting, Hanks said: “He encouraged me to have as much fun as I possibly could have and to do whatever I wanted to do, but it needed to be what I wanted to do.”
Hanks currently stars in the sitcom Life In Pieces, which is in its second season. The family show has a unique format – it is divided into four segments, with each one zeroing in on a different member of a multi-generational family.
The final segment brings all the members of the Short family together. “It’s all stuff that you can relate to. Even if you’re an only child, I guarantee there are some … kind of family gathering in which you’re dealing with crazy extended family,” said Hanks, who plays new dad Greg Short on the show, in an interview with tvinsider.com.
“The thing that I love the most about the show is this idea that each familial unit has their own way of looking at things, and when you bring the whole family together, all hell breaks loose in some way.”
Life In Pieces S2 airs every Monday at 10pm on Star World (Astro Ch 711).
