988 invites you into the House Of Happiness

Two rival chicken rice sellers engage in fowl play to find out whose dish is better; a family’s addiction to their mobile devices nearly ruins their reunion dinner; a stingy couple learns that giving angpows during Chinese New Year has its benefits; and a group of office workers teach their struggling boss a valuable lesson about loyalty.

These are the stories told in the four short films that are part of the Chinese language radio station 988’s brand new 988 CNY House Of Happiness 2017 premium package, released for the upcoming Year of the Rooster.

The films star 988’s radio DJs, radio drama artistes, as well as a couple of guest celebrities including entertainers Danny One and Jonathan Lee.

Last year, 988 was the first Malaysian radio station to launch a short musical film compilation to usher in the lunar new year.

This year, the station decided to give its fans an even bigger treat, by coming up with the four shorties titled Happy Year Of The Rooster, Handphone Family, Angpow Mari? and Let’s Lou Sang.

“The key message in the films is to encourage people to stay positive when facing life’s many challenges,” said 988 general manager Timmund Lim during the launch of the album at GSC Tropicana City Mall in Petaling Jaya recently.

Happy Year Of The Rooster has DJ Sam and DJ Cheryl as rival chicken rice stall sellers in a kopitiam competing to see whose dish is better.

Angpow Mari? sees DJ KK (left) and DJ May playing a stingy couple who tries their best to get out of having to give angpows.

The film also guest stars singer Danny One as a customer who unwittingly starts the fight by ordering the store’s “trademark chicken rice”, the title that both women are claiming as their own.

Handphone Family sees the grown-up kids of an elderly couple volunteer to cook reunion dinner, only to be distracted by their mobile devices along the way. The film stars DJ Anson, DJ Cynthia, DJ Mike, and DJ Hao Min, among others.

Angpow Mari? is a humorous look at the angpow culture of Chinese New Year, with DJ KK and DJ May playing a financially-strapped couple who tries their best to get out of having to give angpows to their relatives and unmarried friends.

Last but not least, Let’s Lou Sang is about a crew of office workers (played by DJ Chan Fong, DJ Piao Ming, DJ Xiao Ma, DJ KK, DJ Cassey, DJ Morna, DJ Xiang Jun, and DJ Jason) who are worried that their boss is about to fire them. They band together to try to convince the boss not to do so by giving him a “lou sang” gift for Chinese New Year. The film also guest stars local entertainer Jonathan Lee.

The 988 CNY House Of Happiness 2017 premium package comes with a CD featuring six original Chinese New Year songs, a DVD containing four short films and four music videos, plus a set of postcards and angpow packets.

The album will be distributed free of charge to 988 listeners and fans during the nationwide 988 CNY House Of Happiness roadshow, which kicked off on New Year’s Eve in Ipoh, Perak.

The next roadshow will be at Jonker Walk, Malacca (Jan 6, 8pm), before moving on to Aeon Tebrau City, Johor Baru (Jan 7, 2pm), SS2 night market, Petaling Jaya (Jan 9, 8pm), OUG night market, Kuala Lumpur (Jan 12, 8pm), 1 Utama Shopping Centre, PJ (Jan 14, 3pm), Taman Megah night market, PJ (Jan 15, 8pm), Taman Connaught night market, Cheras (Jan 18, 8pm), Setia Alam night market, Shah Alam (Jan 21, 8pm), and finally, Kepong Baru night market (Jan 22, 8pm).
