In a first photo unveiled by Top Of The Lake producers and the Sundance TV cable network, Australian actress Nicole Kidman is almost unrecognisable in the second season of Jane Campion’s series.
The picture whets the appetite of fans who have been waiting four years for new episodes. Kidman, who joins the series created by filmmaker Campion for S2, can be seen with a head of wild gray hair, marking a drastic change from the Hollywood star’s usual look.
The actress is set to play Julia, a mother who crosses paths with Detective Robin Griffin, the show’s main character, played by Elisabeth Moss (Mad Men) since the first season in 2013. This time around, the young woman will be investigating the body of an Asian girl washed up on Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia.
This second season, entitled Top Of The Lake: China Girl, reunites Kidman with Campion 20 years after the movie The Portrait Of A Lady. Gwendoline Christie (Game Of Thrones) and David Dencik (Panthers) will also star in the new episodes, once again directed by Campion (The Piano).
S2 of Top Of The Lake will screen at an as-yet-unconfirmed date on BBC Two in Britain and on Sundance TV and Hulu in the United States. In Malaysia, you can watch the first show’s season on Netflix. – AFP Relaxnews
