In conjunction with 988’s 20th anniversary, the Chinese radio station will be organising a grand anniversary party at the Arena Of Stars in Genting Highlands on Sept 24.
Announcers from the radio station along with well-known artistes will be competing in sing-off and dance-off sessions that day, besides delivering entertaining performances.
The deejays are divided into two teams: Team MooMoo, led by Cheryl and Team LaaLaa, led by KK.
Team MooMoo includes members Piao Min, Leaf, Anson, Xiao Ma, Chloe, Sean, Cassey and Chan Fong while Team LaaLaa comprises Jiun, May, Haumin, Blue, Jason, Sam, Cynthia and Mike.
At Team LaaLaa’s recent rehearsal session, the studio was filled with music, singing and dancing.
Asked what difficulties team leader KK encountered leading up to the big day, he said: “We need to dance and sing at the same time. I can’t memorise the dance steps at first. But after almost one-and-a-half months of practicing with the younger announcers, I think we are doing well as a group.”
He added: “Even though this is a competition, we are not focusing on winning. We are not professional singers or dancers. We just need to perform well and avoid from being boo-ed.”
Malaysian singer Alvin Chong said the anniversary party is also a great opportunity to shed light on local artistes.
“Not only is this a good way to show the public that radio announcers can do all sorts of things like dancing and singing, this event also creates a good platform for us as local artistes to get more exposure.”
Chong will be joined by other Malaysian artistes including Ribbon, Hanz, Danny One, Orange, Isaac, Jia, FS, Thomas & Jack, Mad August, Gin Lee and Penny Tai. Taiwan stars Patrice Brasca, Men Envy Children, William Wei and Eli Hsieh will also be a part of the celebration.
