The new trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is out, and it’s got us really, really excited about the movie. It’s set way before A New Hope, so we finally get to see how the Empire actually built the Death Star, and how the Rebels got their hands on the space station’s plans.
Here are the five things we loved about this trailer:
1) Spaceships. Spaceships!
Among the new ships (or rather, new old ships, considering this is set before A New Hope) showcased in the trailer is the U-Wing, which kind of looks like an inverted Y-Wing, but sleeker. And the sight of those Imperial Star Destroyers hovering over a planet and passing the Death Star are just magical.
2) “I fear nothing. All is as the Force wills it.”
We finally get to hear Donnie Yen’s character Chirrut Imwe speak (he sounds a little bit like Ip Man, to be honest), and then wielding his puny staff against a troupe of Stormtroopers with deadly effect. From what we can see so far, Yen will definitely be showcasing his martial arts skilsl in the movie. Let’s hope we get more yen for our buck in the actual movie.
3) Look sir, droids!
No R2D2, BB-8, or C-3PO? No problem. Alan Tudyk’s morose K-2SO has got all your droid needs covered, whether he likes it or not. He kind of sounds like Marvin the Paranoid Android and C-3PO trapped together in an Imperial enforcer droid’s body. The two lines he delivers in the trailer are killer, to say the least.
4) This is where it’s AT-AT
We’ve already seen some tantalising shots of a battle against Imperial AT-ATs in the previous footage, but this trailer gives us a whole lot more to savour, including one of Jiang Wen’s Baze Malbus firing a bazooka at one of the walkers. We can’t wait to see the entire scene, which is probably going to be the showpiece sequence of the movie.
5) Darth Vader!
It may have been just a fleeting moment at the end of the trailer, but that ominous breathing and familiar helmet silhouette were enough to set our pulses racing. Darth Vader is back, and there is no long-lost son to hold him back this time.
Rogue One will be released on Dec 16.
