Misha Omar on being stuck in a 13-hour traffic jam

Singer Misha Omar once took 13 hours to get back to her hometown, Kota Baru, Kelantan. “Usually, we’d plan to leave about a week to 10 days before Hari Raya to avoid the jam. That particular year, we overlooked our schedule and made some commitments and could only go back three days before,” the Bunga-Bunga Cinta hitmaker recalls the arduous traffic crawl with a sigh.

But at least Misha had a good sense of humour and kept her cool during the traffic jam. “I looked at Mimi (her manager and older sister) and she looked at me and we just laughed.”

Misha, who has two children and one more on the way, says those days are long gone. Travelling with a family of her own now means she has to make proper planning.

“I don’t understand why but children find being caught in traffic jams quite fun, actually,” says Misha, 34, who will be celebrating Hari Raya at Kota Baru this year.

“That song Balik Kampung really captures this. They like the feel of being in a car and going home.”
