Trailer watch: Winona Ryder stars in new Netflix show Stranger Things

If you want a good supernatural series to binge watch, you’re in luck. Winona Ryder is returning to the small screen in a creepy show that will air on Netflix very soon.

Strange things don’t happen in the quiet American town of Hawkins, Indiana – until they do in this trailer for the series on Netflix. The show is set to come out on July 15 in the US with eight episodes.

Set in the 1980s, Ryder (Edward Scissorhands) stars as Joyce, the mother trying to track down her missing son, with David Harbour (Revolutionary Road) as the local law enforcement officer she has to convince.

Netflix calls Stranger Things a “love letter to the supernatural classics of the 80’s” and from the nearly two-and-a-half minute trailer, you can see where they are coming from. The show’s visuals are a callback to classics like Spielberg’s ET and Close Encounters Of The Third Kind – complete with kids on bicycles with high handlebars and people dressed in white hazmat suits coming through the door, even the show’s title font references movies from the era.

We still do not know if the show is coming to Netflix in Malaysia but we are keeping our fingers crossed. – Star2/AFP Relaxnews
