James Van Der Beek loses yet another TV show.
CBS has cancelled procedural drama CSI: Cyber, Variety has learned. The series will not return for a third season in 2016-17.
Produced by CBS Television Studios, CSI: Cyber was not among 11 returning series renewed by CBS in March. Last week the broadcaster renewed another long-running procedural drama, Criminal Minds. CSI: Cyber was the last remaining extension of the CSI franchise.
CSI: Miami ended in 2012 after 10 season and CSI: NY ended in 2013 after nine. The original CSI: Crime Scene Investigation aired for 15 seasons, bowing in October 2000 and concluding as a series in February 2015 before airing a two-hour farewell movie in September.
The CSI franchise helped carry CBS to a nearly decade-and-a-half run of ratings supremacy, witht he network leading all of broadcast in total viewers for 13 of the last 14 seasons. But CSI: Cyber never reached the heights of its predecessors.
CSI: Cyber was already set to lose star Ted Danson, who will star next season in NBC freshman comedy The Good Place with Kristen Bell, if it had been picked up for another season. The CBS series also starred Academy Award winner Patricia Arquette, James Van Der Beek, Shad Moss, Charley Koontz and Heyley Kiyoko. – Reuters/Daniel Holloway
