This director wants you to be ready for his Malaysian Special Force film

After wrapping up the shoot for Abang Long Fadhil 2 (the sequel to the Zizan Razak 2014 box office movie), director Syafiq Yusof will start work on his next film KL Special Force.

At a press conference in Kuala Lumpur recently, 23-year-old Syafiq shared that he wants to make a police movie that’s unlike any other.

“I got carried away when I wrote the script for this movie. KL Special Force will give the audience a different perspective about the police force,” he said.

KL Special Force will star Fattah Amin as Zul, a new recruit in the Special Action Unit led by Roslan played by Datuk Rosyam Nor.

Fresh off the success of Munafik – which saw a box office collection of RM17mil – director/actor Syamsul Yusof (Syafiq’s brother) will be playing the role of Asyraff, the leader of a robbery gang known as “Geng Anarkis”. His manipulative ways cause a major rift between Roslan and Zul.

Asyraff utilises the inner conflict to his own advantage as his gang skillfully manage to evade police arrest.

“Roslan and Zul have very different personalities. Roslan is a senior cop who believes in going by the book while Zul is a rookie who does things his way. The movie will play into this whole old school vs new school mentality between the two,” Syafiq said.

He also described Asyraff as not a typical villain: “He’s not motivated by money.” Syafiq shared that he wants to avoid a Polis Evo comparison by going for a more serious, darker approach with KL Special Force.

With a budget of RM2.5mil, KL Special Force will be shot in KL, Putrajaya and Ipoh in Perak. Syafiq has two other films due for release this year – Desolasi and Lagenda Long Piah.

His last movie Mat Moto – Kami Mat Moto Bukan Mat Rempit, which was released in January, made RM4.4mil at the local box office.
