Review: Road Less Traveled by Boyce Avenue

YouTube star Boyce Avenue who’s known for making covers of today’s most popular tunes just churned out its third album full of originals.

While making covers have definitely helped put the band – comprising brothers Alejandro, Fabian and Daniel Manzano, on the map, it now faces the difficult task of shaking off that cover band image and getting fans to listen to its own material.

Road Less Traveled is a strong effort by the band, offering a slew of catchy pop tunes.

It is a decidedly inspirational album with its message primarily about committing to being a friend to those who are hurting in songs like Family, Ride The Wave and Your Biggest Fan.

Lead vocalist Alejandro also sings about embracing our unique selves no matter what the world says in Cinderella while Pick Yourself Back Up Again urges us to move past our failures.

Melody-wise, the album boasts some strong pop hooks especially on the relationship-driven tracks Be Somebody and Given Up. It’s the kind of album you’ll want to hear as a pick-me-up at the end of a bad day.
