Colin Hanks sitcom Life In Pieces gets another season

CBS has renewed Life In Pieces for S2, Variety has learned.

The family sitcom ranked as this season’s top new comedy across the broadcast networks, averages 10.53 million viewers in total.

Life In Pieces packs an impressive ensemble, starring Dianne Wiest, James Brolin, Zoe Lister-Jones, Colin Hanks, Angelique Cabral, Thomas Sadoski, Betsy Brandt, Dan Bakkedahl, Niall Cunningham, Holly J. Barrett and Giselle Eisenberg. 20th Century Fox TV and Aaron Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment are behind the comedy with Kaplan exec producing with Justin Adler, Jason Winer, Jeff Morton and Brad Copeland.

Last pilot season, Life In Pieces – a favourite of the network and the studio – was put on the fast track to be greenlit for the 2015-16 season.

The renewal comes as the networks are tasked with the decision of what to save and what to axe this week, ahead of next week’s Upfronts when the 2016-17 broadcast slates will be unveiled.

Still on the bubble for CBS is Rush Hour and The Odd Couple in the comedy department, plus dramas Code Black, Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders, CSI: Cyber, Limitless and Supergirl, which is rumoured to be flying over to the younger-skewing CBS sister net CW.

Sources say Supergirl, Odd Couple and Code Black have the best chances for pickup, while the other bubble shows don’t have as strong of an outlook. As for what new comedies will be joining Life In Pieces on the 2016-17 schedule, insiders say CBS is looking for three to five newbies, which will be announced later this week.
