It was a celebration of cinematographic art, where new writing, genres and visual innovations are unveiled. The buzz generated over the (recently concluded) 2016 Cannes Film Festival however, remained about fashion.
Sure, you still had the usual red carpet highlights of beautiful dresses. Jodie Foster looked freshly elegant in Dior. As did Blakely Lively – baby bump and all – dressed by Versace, or Elle Fanning, resplendent in Zuhair Murad.

But the one outfit that had everyone talking was Bella Hadid’s. Her extremely slinky, strikingly crimson Alexandre Vauthier Couture gown floored the crowd and set tongues wagging over the Internet.
“The dress has a built-in silk bodysuit. Top-stick (tape) is always a good idea. Practice makes perfect,” Hadid’s stylist, Elizabeth Sulcer, later told US magazine Vanity Fair in an interview (http://ift.tt/1s5NVM8).

Another celebrity, Julia Roberts, showed her rebellious side instead. While she stepped out onto the red carpet in a gorgeous Armani Prive design, this was done so barefooted. It was apparently a stand against unequal wardrobe guidelines at the festival. Organisers allegedly turned away a group of women in their 50s from a screening of Carol for not wearing high heels last year. It has led to stars speaking out against the dress-code double standards. Roberts just took it a step further.
