Also in conjunction with its 20th anniversary, 988 launched #988MoveLa Be Fit which saw announcers and fans completing a series of physical challenges during a half-day event.

988 also travelled to Penang, Kuala Lumpur and Johor Baru to meet with fans. Called #988MoveLa Super OB, there were fun games and activities plus performances by various artistes – all broadcasted on 988 directly from these locations.

988 first went on air May 8, 1996 as a trilingual radio station, with 46% Chinese content, and was the first private Chinese radio station in Malaysia.

Before it was named after its frequency – 98.8 in the Klang Valley – it was known as “Rediffusion”, a cabled broadcasting box widely installed and managed by Radio Rediffusion Sdn Bhd.

It later evolved to become a full-fledged Chinese radio station in December 1997 and is currently a part of Star Media Radio Group.

It is among the top Chinese-language stations in Malaysia, attracting 1.7 million listeners weekly nationwide. It has emerged as the leading Chinese radio station in Penang.
