Got a minute? X-Men: Apocalypse would like to have a word. It’s about the film’s new bad guy, Apocalypse (played by Oscar Isaac), and his fearsome foursome of supervillain sidekicks.

Angel, Storm, Psylocke and Magneto have been introduced in previous trailers but 20th Century Fox wants to make sure people understand what’s at stake in the upcoming May movie.

Franchise star Michael Fassbender, director Bryan Singer and X-Men newcomer Olivia Munn are on hand to explain how new and powerful antagonist, Apocalypse, relates to the upcoming film’s quartet of associated mutant threats.

“Apocalypse is the original mutant,” explains Michael Fassbender over scenes from the film.

Fassbender reprises his role as disillusioned supermutant Magneto, the character joining up with Apocalypse who acts as an amplifier for his team’s powers.

But in contrast to genial school founder Professor Charles Xavier, Apocalypse has an agenda which is “much more catastrophic”, emphasises director Bryan Singer.

New to the franchise is Munn, who plays another Apocalypse acolyte in blade-wielding Psylocke. “They’re very powerful – the whole world is at stake.”

X-Men: Apocalypse opens in the US on May 27, and internationally from May 18. – AFP Relaxnews
