Alexander Skarsgard goes from playing a vampire to this jungle man in The Legend Of Tarzan.

Edgar Rice Burroughs wrote more than 20 novels around his fictional hero, Tarzan. It seems filmmakers are just as drawn to this character.

David Yates (who helmed the final four Harry Potter films) is the latest director to bring the Lord Of The Jungle to the big screen, with a super-buff Alexander Skarsgard (True Blood) in the lead role. Yates gives the story a little twist in The Legend Of Tarzan.

In his version, Tarzan has removed himself from the jungles of Africa for some years now, and is leading a dignified life as Lord Greystoke alongside his beloved wife Jane (Margot Robbie).

When he is invited back to the Congo to serve as a trade emissary of Parliament, he unknowingly becomes a pawn of the manipulative Leon Rom (Christoph Waltz). Also in the movie are Samuel L. Jackson, Djimon Hounsou, John Hurt and Jim Broadbent.

In an interview with USA Today, Skarsgard said: “It’s almost the opposite of the classic tale, where it’s about taming the beast. This is about a man who’s holding back and slowly as you peel off the layers, he reverts to a more animalistic state and lets that side of his personality out.”

The Legend Of Tarzan is scheduled to open in cinemas nationwide on June 30.
