Trailer watch: Game Of Thrones returns in 12 days

Forget winter, “the dead are coming” in the the latest trailer for Game Of Thrones S6, and although it looks like many battles will be fought in the upcoming installments of the HBO hit, “the real war is between the living and the dead,” according to Ser Davos Seaworth.

The new trailer debuted at the Los Angeles premiere for S6 recently, and features a slew of new footage, including Jaime Lannister threatening the High Sparrow; Sansa Stark plotting her vengeance against the Freys and Ramsay Bolton; Arya Stark learning to fight in the House of Black & White – even while blind; Bran Stark getting to grips with The Sight, after remaining absent for all of S5; Tyrion Lannister coming face to face with Daenerys Targaryen’s captive dragons; and plenty of fight scenes featuring the Lannister, Bolton and Wildling forces, as the war for the Iron Throne intensifies.

Speculation has reached fever pitch over the fate of Jon Snow, who does make an appearance in the new trailer – albeit as a corpse – and his loss seems to have had a surprising impact on the Wildlings, who were prepared to follow him after the death of their leader, Mance Rayder, last season.

Will Jon be resurrected by the Red Priestess Melisandre, who lost her last champion, Stannis, in S5? We’ll see what Game Of Thrones S6 holds when it premieres in Malaysia on April 25 at 9am over HBO (Astro Ch 411/ HD 431; repeats on the same day at 9pm). – AFP Relaxnews/ Laura Prudom

Familiar and not-so-familiar faces in Game Of Thrones S6

As usual, the new season will include 10 episodes which will be shown at the same time in Malaysia as the US. Returning series regular include Peter Dinklage, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Lena Headey, Emilia Clarke, Sophie Turner, Maisie Williams and Jonathan Pryce.

In S6, new cast members – like Pilou Asbaek, Essie Davis, Souad Faress, James Faulkner, Richard E. Grant, Ian McShane, Joe Naufau, Freddie Stroma and Max von Sydow – will be making appearances.

The first episode in S6 is titled The Red Woman and the synopsis provided by HBO simply says: “Jon Snow is dead. Daenerys meets a strong man. Cersei sees her daughter again”

Let’s hope The Red Woman is nothing like the infamous “Red Wedding” scene from the show’s The Rains Of Castamere episode (S3)!
