Can Ariana Grande pull off playing a goody-two-shoes?

It’s easy to forget that Ariana Grande started out as an actress first, what with all the success she’s been enjoying as a singer.

The 22-year-old pop sensation, whose vocal abilities have been compared to that of Mariah Carey’s, ventured into acting when she was just eight, playing the red-haired cutie Annie in a community theatre. In her teens, Grande rose to prominence as one of the main cast of Nickelodeon’s Victorious and Sam & Cat.

After exploding into the music scene with a string of hits such as The Way, Problem, Bang Bang and Love Me Harder in recent years, Grande is literally screaming to get back into acting. She stars in Scream Queens, a horror-comedy series from the creators of Glee, about a group of sorority girls trying to investigate a killer on the prowl.

“Sorry my voice is gone. I’ve been screaming on set all week so it’s a little hoarse,” she tells Extra. “Scream Queens, literally.”

Grande, who plays one of the sorority girls on the show, describes her character Chanel No. 2 as “the safest one” and “the goody-two-shoes of the group”. She also shares about returning to acting with Scream Queens: “I hadn’t met any of the cast before. I was a little nervous, it’s like your first day of school, you go into a completely different environment but then I was like, ‘Wow.’ I love every single person here … I feel very warmly welcomed.”

Scream Queens airs every Monday at 9.50pm on Fox HD (Astro Ch 724).
