Charmed to get reboot, but not with Shannen Doherty

The American network CBS is reported to have a reboot of the fantasy series Charmed in the pipeline, but without the original cast.

After doing the rounds online, rumours were later confirmed on Twitter by former series star, Alyssa Milano.

Hot on the heels of The X-Files, 24 and Full House, Charmed looks set to be the latest series destined to make a small-screen comeback. Ten years after coming to an end on the WB network, now known as CW, the fantasy drama series could be heading back to screens in the form of a reboot.

Unlike other recent comebacks, CBS has excluded the possibility of bringing back stars from the original cast. While David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson have recently stepped back into their roles as Fox Mulder and Dana Scully for Fox, Milano, Shannen Doherty and Holly Marie Combs have not been called upon for the new version of Charmed – at least not for the time being. But while they won’t be returning to the lead roles, the trio could always reunite for a cameo appearance.

As yet, there’s no word on whether CBS will stick to the original story behind Charmed, with the three Halliwell sisters – Prue, Piper and Phoebe – who discover they have supernatural powers upon the death of their grandmother. The network could opt for a new line-up of lead characters in a totally different setting, leaving behind the family’s San Francisco manor.

Charmed ran from 1998 to 2006 and was a hit series on US TV was produced by Aaron Spelling. After Doherty quit the show, Rose McGowan starred as the trio’s half-sister Paige from S4. – AFP Relaxnews
