1 of them may just be the next Han Solo

Three young actors have been named as shortlistees for the lead role in a Han Solo spinoff from the Star Wars franchise, according to a new report.

Taron Egerton of Kingsman: The Secret Service and Eddie The Eagle, Jack Reynor of Transformers: Age Of Extinction, and Alden Ehrenreich of Hail! Caesar have all made it through to the final round of casting for May 2018’s Han Solo origin story.

Harrison Ford played the role in all three original movies, returning for 2015’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and the prequel feature is to be the second of three announced anthology films.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is to arrive Dec 16, 2016, directed by Gareth Edwards of 2014’s Godzilla and starring Felicity Jones, Ben Mendelsohn and Diego Luna.

After Star Wars: Episode VIII in 2017, the Han Solo film is due May 28, 2018, with Phil Lord and Chris Miller of The Lego Movie and 21 Jump Street directing.

Miles Teller, Ansel Elgort, Dave Franco, Scott Eastwood, Emory Cohen and Blake Jenner are among the nearly two dozen names already linked with the role; “there could be a few other names on the list”, The Hollywood Reporter notes, though it was Egerton, Reynor and Ehrenreich who were said to have tested for the role over the weekend of March 12-13. – AFP Relaxnews
