When winners of this year’s Academy Awards walk on stage to accept their Oscars, they’ll be handed a new generation of golden statuettes, hand-cast in bronze and finished in 24-karat gold.
Beginning this year, the Academy announced that a foundry in New York state will be tasked with producing the Oscar statuettes which will restore subtle features of George Stanley’s original sculpture.
Using a combination of 3D technology and a cast bronze Oscar from 1929, Polich Tallix Fine Art Foundry based in Rock Tavern in New York has been busy giving the statues an updated makeover which includes a permanent electroplated finish in 24-karat gold, and hand-buffed bases for a satin effect.
It will have taken three months to produce the 50 statuettes that will be handed out this year.
The new Oscar will be the same size of the original statuette, measuring 35cm and 3.85kg.
The 88th Annual Academy Awards will be held on Feb 28. – AFP Relaxnews
