What do OlaBola, Hantu Bonceng and Khurafat have in common? They are all Malaysian movies in the RM8mil club.
OlaBola, a film that carries the Malaysia Boleh spirit, has reportedly made RM8mil at the local box office just 13 days after its nationwide release on Jan 28.
Hantu Bonceng made RM8.54mil during its run in 2010 and and Khurafat earned RM8.08mil in 2011. Other local movies that have made RM8mil are Ngangkung (RM8.18mil) and Kongsi (RM8.09mil).
Inspired by true events, OlaBola stars JC Chee, Luqman Hafidz and Saran Kumar as football players looking to get the national team a spot in the 1980 Olympic Games. Directed by Chiu Keng Guan (The Journey), the movie also stars Bront Palarae and Marianne Tan.
Only time will tell if OlaBola will be able to surpass the RM17.47mil record set by Polis Evo in October 2015. Polis Evo dethroned The Journey as the top Malaysian movie after 42 days in cinemas.
OlaBola is currently showing in cinemas nationwide.
